Biography and career
Mr Panagiotis Lymperopoulos was born in Piraeus in 1964 and entered the judiciary in 1993. He has served in the courts of first instance of Nafplio, Chalkida, and Athens as First Instance Judge and President of First Instance Judges. At the Athens Court of Appeal, he served from 2011 to 2023 as Appeals Judge and President of Appeals Judges.
In 2023, Mr Lymperopoulos was promoted to Supreme Court Judge (Areopagite), serving in the A3 (Civil) and 6th (Criminal) Chambers. Additionally, by decision of the Administrative Plenary of the Court, he was assigned the duties of Head Judge of the Press and International Relations Office of the Supreme Court (Areios Pagos). In 2025, he was selected as Vice President and assumed the duties of President of the 5th Criminal Chamber.
On 1 July 2026, Mr Lymperopoulos was appointed as President of the Supreme Court (Areios Pagos).
Mr Lymperopoulos holds degrees from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration and the Faculty of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). He completed postgraduate studies at the Department of Economics of the University of Peloponnese in the field of Public Organizations and Business Administration. He has taught at the National School of Judicial Officers and speaks fluent English.
During the period from 2002 to 2020, he was elected as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Judges and Prosecutors, while serving as Vice President (2016–2020) and Deputy General Secretary (2006–2012). He participated in the team of the Hellenic Presidency of the EU in 2014, in the European Judicial Network (EJN), and was a national representative in the E-Justice Working Party.
Mr Lymperopoulos has taken part in many drafting committees and working groups, including the Standing Scientific Committee for Examining the Impact of the Introduction of Artificial Intelligence on the Judicial System. He has authored articles, studies, and papers on topics regarding the acceleration, transparency, and modernization of justice.
